Sheila Bridges – Bio

Description

In 2023, Adelphi Paper Hangings asked Sheila Bridges to create custom colorways for five of our historical wallpaper patterns; we were thrilled by her eager response.  We’ve long been fans of her slyly playful approach to wallpaper design – bringing in elements of traditional patterns, as well as her seasoned structuring with color.

Featured in our Designer colorway project are five of the patterns. Learn more about Sheila Bridges inspiration, and her story below.

“I have always been a huge fan of Adelphi’s block printed wallpapers, so I was very excited about the idea of collaborating with them to recolor five existing patterns. In addition to my own original designs ( i.e. Harlem Toile De Jouy,) Adelphi is the only other wallpaper brand that is represented in my own Hudson Valley home. My intention during the recoloration process was not only to put together fresh, modern color combinations that people might not think of, but also to showcase ones that commonly exist in nature. I also was inspired to use colors and textures that I often find in contemporary art, fashion, jewelry design and the home furnishings sector.

It was such a pleasure to work with Steve and his talented team of skilled artisans, who take tremendous pride and care to produce such beautiful hand crafted papers.” – Sheila Bridges
