Strawberry Hill Floret

English, 1772

This pattern is licensed to Adelphi Paper Hangings by The Strawberry Hill Trust.

Description

This spare but quietly dramatic pattern was found in the Tribune Passage at Strawberry Hill, a short hall between the Tribune and the Gallery.

As with our Everard Medallion, the Strawberry Hill Floret creates a sense of depth by using the “slip print” technique. On the paper’s first pass over the printing bench the block printed a very dark gray. During the second pass the same block was used to print the white, offsetting the registration slightly so as to mostly – but not entirely- obscure the first color and create the illusion of a shadow.

While all of the colorways offered here use two colors the pattern could also be printed with just one color.

Imperial Measurements: Repeat 2 ¾ inches, width 21 inches, straight match.

Metric Measurements: 7.0 cm, 53.3 cm.
